The last matchup of the quarterfinals will feature two guys effective at talking some garbage, but also who proved they've got deep skills on 2K. Andre Drummond took down DeMarcus Cousins in the final game of MT NBA 2K21 their first round, and did so by 52 points!
Sunday night brought us the rest of the first round of the NBA 2K Players Tournament results. Matchups comprised Devin Booker vs. Michael Porter Jr., Rui Hachimura vs. Donovan Mitchell, and Andre Drummond vs. DeMarcus Cousins. When most games kept up the theme of one player dominating and lots of trash talk, viewers finally got to see a game go down to the last buzzer. Following is a look at which players proceeded on into the quarterfinals.
That made things interesting to watch as they left remarks about themselves and their teammates through the match. "This game is rigged," Sabonis stated when Myles Turner was too slow to chase down a player on a quick break. From the fourth quarter, Harrell had expanded to some 60-37 lead as Sabonis was unable to find any success with his own shots. Harrell maintained the lead up as Sabonis eventually dropped, 73-51.
The next matchup of the night was the championship's best so far. It was No. 4 seed Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and No. 13 seed Rui Hachimura in the Washington Wizards. Hachimura went together with the Los Angeles Lakers and Mitchell went together with the Brooklyn Nets. Of course, Mitchell had both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant to utilize virtually, but that wouldn't be true in real life for the Nets. Both players had a competitive first quarter, trading baskets, together with Hachimura up 19-17 at the end.
"I'm gonna start doin hack-a-Bron if this is the situation," Mitchell commented later on Buy NBA 2K21 MT after LeBron missed in the line. Hachimura asked Mitchell how often he plays he admitted he plays in NBA 2K20 Park mode. As things stayed close, Mitchell maintained switching up his defensive matchups for LeBron and AD. He would pull ahead by a point in the third, but Rui came back. At the fourth, Mitchell managed to pull ahead slightly, moving up with over two minutes left. Things were tied about a minute to go however Rui found a way to score with LeBron. Afterwards, he utilized cover celebrity Anthony Davis to score inside and get the filthy to go up by five.
